Some of our Pacific Alumni that have moved up to higher levels:

Michael Cascioppo,

Officiating baseball came early to Michael Cascioppo (Cah-sho-poh) as he started umpiring at the young age of 11. Knowing it was a profession he wanted to pursue, he made it a point to constantly improve his skills and knowledge as an umpire, and furthermore, gave each game all he had no matter the level, or caliber of play, as he saw, and used, those moments to practice his mechanics.

Having attended a variety of umpire camps and clinics ranging from Little League, High School, College, and professional, in 2005 he joined Pacific Baseball Umpires, (a Southern California High School Association), where he continued to hone his skills. He stated “being , and working in Pacific allowed me to spread my name and meet some amazing people.” Michael eventually achieved his goal of attending professional umpire school in 2008 and 2009, and was selected to move on further into Minor League Baseball’s PBUC Program. An advanced training program step on the road through working in Minor League Baseball and eventually, one hopes, the Major Leagues.

In his fifth year with Pacific , he was selected to work second base for the CIF Division 1 final at Tony Gwynn Stadium, and invited to join the SCCU for Jr. College baseball. He worked the Coastal Plain League before being hired by Minor League Baseball. The same year he was selected to work the Coastal Plain League All Star game for the first round of playoffs. In 2010 he was selected to work the playoffs for the North West League, and worked the plate in the final championship game. In 2011 he was selected to work second base in the All Star game for the South Atlantic League. He was also selected to be the crew chief for all the playoffs, and championship series. As if that wasn’t enough on this whirlwind voyage, he was selected to work the instructional league in Florida following his 2011 season.

The start of the 2012 season found Michael working in the California league (single A advanced). This was something he enjoyed immensely as he was now closer to home, and many fellow umpires, and friends, had the opportunity to see Michael display his skills and learn from him. And topping off the season, he was selected as Crew Chief for the California League Playoffs, and Championship games. Finally winding down the 2012 season, Michael was assigned to work the Arizona Instructional League.

2013 through 2015 Mike was promoted to the (AA)Texas League where he stayed for 3 years. His final year he worked the championship and was nominated as the crew chief once again.

During the High School pre-season, Michael is on the Pacific Baseball Umpires UDP Staff and assists in many field and classroom training sessions, as well as youth umpiring associations. We at Pacific Baseball Umpires are excited for Michael, and proud to have him as a member of our organization.
